Two Texas Exes Inducted into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame

The Texas Sports Hall of Fame inducts two Texas Exes today.

Four-time Olympic gold medalist Sanya Richards-Ross and former Detroit Lions defensive tackle Doug English are among 344 inductees to the hall since 1951.

Ross was inducted into the University of Texas Women’s Hall of Honor in 2011; English was previously elected to the College Football Hall of Fame.

Executive director Steve Fallon says the Hall of Fame is an exclusive opportunity that looks for admirable inductees.

"Doug English has been on the ballot for the past couple of years," Fallon says. "Certainly he’s one of the all-time great defensive linemen out of the University of Texas and had a brilliant career with the Detroit Lions, but Doug’s also just a class person."

"And that melds right in the same way with Sanya Richards-Ross," Fallon continues.  "Her eloquence as a speaker, as a role model, and what she’s done on the track all contributed to making her a slam-dunk.  That was her first time on the ballot, I believe, and she made it."

The Texas Sports Hall of Fame will induct a total of eight athletes and host a reception today, before a banquet at 5 p.m. in Baylor University's Ferrell Center.
