One of the most basic requirements of being an engaged citizen is understanding how government works. To help you make sense of it all, we’re bringing you “Civics 101,” a week of stories about how things work in Austin.

Ever wondered how property taxes work, why you should care about Central Health or what the county commissioner does? KUT News will answer these questions and more during “Morning Edition” and “All Things Considered” – and online at KUT.org the week of May 20.

As part of “Civics 101,” we’ll be hosting events on May 21 and May 22 exploring what civic duty means and an interactive event where you can learn about how the city budget is spent. Stay tuned for details on how to attend these free community events.
