The Downtown Austin Alliance tripled the size of its safety team due to the increased shortages the Austin Police Department is facing.

Hutto ISD doesn't want aspiring educators to have to choose between getting a degree and working. The fast-growing district north of Austin is launching an apprenticeship program that allows future teachers to "earn and learn" on the job.

The district needs 85 bus drivers to be fully staffed, and right now, it has fewer than 25. The new school year begins next week.

As they contend with teacher shortages and student absences, some school districts are also facing bus-driver shortages during the current wave of COVID-19.

The district said it's sometimes not receiving food orders from suppliers. Meal service will continue, but the food options might change.
