Fort Hood firefighters are working to put out an approximately 700-acre fire burning in a training range at the army post. It started around 2 p.m. today.  The fire is burning at the Dalton Mountain Training Range, in the north end of the post, and is currently moving south to the Lone Star Range.

Fort Hood public affairs officials said no one is in danger, that the wildfire is under control. They expect it'll be a few hours before the fire is put out. No word yet on what sparked it.

Fort Hood army units were holding training exercises at the range today. It's unknown how many soldiers were out there or whether the exercises started the fire.

One helicopter is on scene and, as a precaution, Fort Hood has called on local fire departments to be on stand-by.

Weather.com reports wind gusts in the Fort Hood area are blowing at 12mph and gusting to 21 mph.
