We now have a little better understanding of why the Robert Rodriguez film Machete didn't receive state film incentive money. The Austin American Statesman discovered evidence of a letter writing campaign to the Texas Film Commission and the Governor's office.
The Texas Legislature starts it's work January 11th. It's going to be a session filled with budget cuts, redistricting and possible infighting among the body's substantial Republican majority. KUT will spend plenty of time following the in's and out's of the session and letting you know how the decisions made will affect you. KUT's political reporting partner, The Texas Tribune, posted a legislative primmer to help you get ready for the session.
You may have spent a part of your New Year's Day sitting with friends around a TV watching a college bowl game or two. But January 1st no longer means the end of the college football season. This year's national title game isn't until January 10th. The Texas A&M Aggies still have a game to play too. They'll face off against the LSU Tigers on January 7th in the AT&T Cotton Bowl.
The University of Texas, as we all know, finished 5-7 and did not go to a bowl game. This time last year the Longhorns were preparing for the national title game against Alabama.(Alabama finished a 10-3 season beating the snot out of Michigan State 49-7 in the Capitol One Bowl)
