January unemployment numbers for Texas remained essentially unchanged from December. But the non-seasonally adjusted jobless rate in Central Texas crept up 0.4%. That rate stands at 7.3%, much of the rise attributed to the end of extra hiring for the holidays. Lisa Givens is a spokesperson with the Texas Workforce Commission.
"We did see a loss of 10,100 jobs, and that's in line with prior years' seasonal fluctuation we've seen historically," said Lisa Givens, a spokesperson for the Texas Workforce Commission.
A year ago, Austin's unemployment rate stood at 7.6%. Nationally, the unemployment rate stands at 9 percent.
