Brush Fire in Lake Travis Quickly Extinguished

Firefighters from Lake Travis, Austin, Oak Hill and elsewhere swooped down on a wildfire that erupted this afternoon near the Falconhead Apartments on Ranch Road 620.

The apartments were evacuated and about a dozen firefighting units quickly squelched the blaze, containing it to about an acre. No one was injured and no buildings were damaged.

“As long we’re in this current drought conditions, any fire that starts is going to become large quickly, so the quicker we respond and get to it, the better the circumstances are going to be,” Lake Travis Fire and Rescue assistant chief John Durham told KUT News.

Lake Travis Independent School District sent an e-mail to parents to say students and staff were not affected by the fire or the evacuation, and that all district-wide dismissals will remain as regularly scheduled.
