Today the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality and Texas Parks and Wildlife announced a new statewide public service campaign: “Take Care of Texas.”
The campaign featuring a jingle written and performed by Texas country music star Kevin Fowler. The tune stresses the importance of water and energy conservation, especially during this period of extended drought.
TCEQ representative Andy Saenz describes the campaign as a “personal responsibility campaign … urging Texans to do their part to protect the environment.”
“Most of the state is in some state of drought,” Saenz says. “We have to do everything we possibly can to conserve water. You can’t manufacture water, but you can conserve it.”
The campaign also focuses on air quality and pollution. “The largest source of air pollution we have is our cars,” Saenz says. “Whatever we can do to make our cars more efficient will help with our air quality.”
TakeCareOfTexas.org, the campaign’s website, offers online tools and tips to help Texans conserve.
The jingle will be broadcast throughout the summer on Texas radio and television, and can be heard here.
