Hackers Warn of Reprisal

Stratfor, the Austin-based intelligence think tank whose website was hacked over the weekend, is warning that people who are rallying to the company's defense on Facebook may become hacking targets, themselves.

On the company's Facebook page, officials write:

It's come to our attention that our members who are speaking out in support of us on Facebook may be being targeted for doing so and are at risk of having sensitive information repeatedly published on other websites. So, in order to protect yourselves, we recommend taking security precautions when speaking out on Facebook or abstaining from it altogether.

The group "Anonymous" claims to have breached Stratfor's website over the Christmas holiday, and they said they would use the credit card information they got from the breach to make charitable donations.

Ian Crawford joined KUT as News Editor in 2008, after spending over four years as a reporter/anchor at KLBJ Radio in Austin. He began his broadcasting career while still in high school in Southern Oregon. During high school and college at the University of Oregon, he worked at times as a reporter, news anchor, sports play-by-play reporter, music host and commercial producer before moving to Texas in 2003.
