Lake Austin Community Meeting To Take Place Tonight

As summer sets in, the City of Austin is looking for input on issues along Lake Austin.

The Lake Austin Task Force was formed last year to assess issues on the lake, including shoreline erosion and wake-free zones, and the group presents its findings tonight in a public meeting.

Chuck Lesniak of Austin Watershed Protection says that the report also addresses the problem of construction along Lake Austin in recent years.

“They’re recommending a registration process that the city register all boat docks,” Lesniak said. “Because really we don’t know how many boat docks there are right now and where they are, and that was an issue.”

The report also focused on imposing potential noise violations on the lake and continuing to combat the Hydrilla infestation which covers about a third of the lake, according to the report.

Lesniak says that the task force will present its report to City Council next month.

Tonight’s meeting starts at 7:00 p-m at One Texas Center at 505 Barton Springs Road.
