Public school districts across the state have made the switch to a four-day week in an attempt to recruit teachers, boost student attendance and increase overall morale. San Marcos CISD is in the early stages of considering the change.

At a special-called meeting Thursday, the board of trustees voted 6-1 to require students and employees to wear masks in district facilities and buses.

The district said last week that having students back on campus will make it easier to see how they're doing mentally and academically.

The district says it wants to check on students in person before they're off for summer vacation. Exemptions will be made for those with medical conditions.
