The City of Austin wants to hear from people who use the city’s pools and splash pads – and from those who don’t.
The city is putting together an assessment of its aquatics facilities. The average age of one in Austin is about 40 years old.
"It'd be very informative for anybody – someone who uses the pool once a year, or someone who comes to the pool daily. We want to just get that input and have that resource to be able to make long-term plans," says Tom Nelson, Division Manager for the Austin Parks and Recreation Department.
The city wants to know if admission prices are too high, or if people want to see new restrooms or more shade at pools.
"The trend in the aquatic industry is facilities that are being put in the ground right now have more shade," Nelson said. "If you look at some of the older pools that we have, a lot of them don't have any type of shade or any seating or anything. Those are amenities that we've had to add through the years."
Suggestions from people at a series of public meetings this week could end up in a future bond proposition or budget proposal.
There's also an online survey.
