This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Austin Film Festival – one of the first fests to focus on screenplays and writers’ contributions to film.
The festival began as the Film Screenwriters Conference. Since then, the festival has expanded to include filmmakers, but it remains focused on script writing and fostering connections between professional and amateur screenwriters. "We hope to infuse the industry with stories, strong stories," says AFF screenplay competition director Matt Dy.
"In the first year, we had about a thousand submissions,” Dy says. “And 20 years later, we've grown to receive a record number of entries: over 6,200 individual screenplay submissions. There's no rest. It takes all year to run the competition and organize a new AFF edition.” You can read more about this year’s premieres.
