The Best Songs Ever ... This Week, June 8, 2018

Austin Price for KUT
Bahamas poses at KUTX after performing in studio in February.

The staff at our sister station KUTX scour the earth to bring listeners the best music. Each Friday, they share three of their favorite songs on Morning Edition.

"No Expectations" by Bahamas

I’ll begin with Afie Jurvanen, better known to the world as Bahamas. He’s a seriously gifted singer, songwriter and guitarist. Even though he hails from Toronto, his music is as cool and breezy as the name Bahamas, and his fourth album, Earthtones, is one of my favorites of the year. Check out "No Expectations" and catch Bahamas at ACL Fest in October.

"Happy Man" by Jungle

Also appearing at ACL Fest, the seven-member-strong British band Jungle. They really turned a lot of heads at KUTX when they played live in our Studio 1A a few years ago, and we’ve been waiting patiently for another album ever since. They're finally delivering with a new single called "Happy Man."

"Golden Wings" by Gabriel Garzon-Montano

Finally, New York's Gabriel Garzón-Montano is back with a great song called "Golden Wings," but it’s the kind that gives disc jockeys nightmares. He starts the song normally and then waits six seconds (which is an eternity of dead air) before he makes another peep. After delivering that mild heart attack, Garzón-Montano really shows off his jazz/funk chops.
