Even though Black people make up 7.5% of Austin’s population, they accounted for 15% of all traffic stops and 25% of arrests in 2018.

The Black Fund, a collaboration between the city and the Austin Community Foundation, will invest more than $1 million in Black organizations over the next three years.

The community-spurred resolution will put a dollar amount on how systemic racism and city policies led to wealth, health and equity gaps, as well as establish an "embassy" for Black Austinites.

"Black individuals make up about 21% of all renters, but they make up 35% of all defendants on eviction cases," says Peter Hepburn, a researcher for Princeton University's Eviction Lab.
