Texas Open Meetings Act

The Monday decision from District Judge Catherine Mauzy says the Hays County Commissioners Court violated the Texas Open Meetings Act by not allowing enough public input on the bond. It is not clear if the county will appeal.

In a lawsuit filed last week, four residents allege Hays County did not provide key information on a transportation bond currently on the ballot. They also claim local leaders violated state law.

The city was allowing residents two minutes to speak total — no matter how many agenda items they wished to comment on. Now, people will get at least two minutes per item.
