Town Lake Animal Center is putting out a call for foster homes, after a greater-than-expected number of kittens have been taken into the shelter.
The kittens generally need to housed for at least two weeks. Fosters are asked to provide bedding and care for the animals, while the shelter pays for medical treatment and food.
“An influx of kittens is not unexpected, since springtime is mating season for cats, but the large numbers are more than anticipated,” Chief Animal Services Officer Abigail Smith said in a statement today. “We are hearing from all of our rescue partners, like Austin Pets Alive, the Humane Society and others that they, too, are seeking additional foster homes to care for these animals on a short-term basis."
