Austin's 'Lamar Street Art Gallery' Says Goodbye – For Now

The “Lamar Street Art Gallery” – a collection of street art painted and pasted up on a wall by the Lamar Boulevard underpass just north of Town Lake – is no more.

For now, at least.

This morning, a poster on the Austin page of social sharing website Reddit posted a photo of the wall being painted over.

The wall, near the Gables Park Plaza apartments, began attracting a critical mass of street artists when someone pasted signage to the wall declaring it the "future home" of the Lamar Street Art Gallery.

It’s a reminder of the transitory nature of Austin street art, and what happens when unofficial landmarks go away. But on Reddit, one commenter says the development represents “Ebb and flow. The art will be back soon.”
