Graduation Time: Expect Frank Erwin Center Congestion

Expect traffic congestion around the Frank Erwin Center to pick up over the next couple of days as area schools celebrate high school graduations.

Westlake High School students will get their diplomas at the Erwin Center tonight. Three other high schools have graduations scheduled there on Saturday: Hendrickson High School (9 a.m.), Pflugerville High School (11 a.m.) and Connally High School (1 p.m.).

Austin Independent School District graduation ceremonies are coming up next week:

  • Tuesday, June 4 – Rosedale School will hold commencement at its school building at 2 p.m.
  • Wednesday, June 5 – Three AISD graduations are scheduled at the Erwin Center: Reagan High School (4 p.m.), Eastside International (6 p.m.) and Garza High School 7:30 p.m.
  • Thursday, June 6 – Four AISD graduations are scheduled at the Erwin Center: Crocket High School (11 a.m.), Lanier High School (1:30 p.m.), Travis High School (4 p.m.) and Austin High School (7 p.m.).

  • Friday, June 7 – Four AISD graduations are scheduled at the Erwin Center: Anderson High School (10 a.m.), LBJ/LASA (1 p.m.), McCallum High School (4 p.m.) and Akins High School (7 p.m.).

  • Saturday, June 8 – Graduation for Premier Travis, Premier Lanier will be at the UT-Austin's LBJ Auditorium at 11 a.m. Bowie High School's commencement is at 2 p.m. The Ann Richards School will hold its graduation at 6 p.m. at St. Edwards University.

The Frank Erwin Center reminds everyone planning to attend graduation ceremonies there that it's not okay to park in State lots and garages before 6 p.m. Instead, the Erwin Center provides a parking map.

Laura first joined the KUT team in April 2012. She now works for the statewide program Texas Standard as a reporter and producer. Laura came to KUT from the world of television news. She has worn many different hats as an anchor, reporter and producer at TV stations in Austin, Amarillo and Toledo, OH. Laura is a proud graduate of the University of Missouri-Columbia, a triathlete and enjoys travel, film and a good beer. She enjoys spending time with her husband and pets.
