New data from the U.S. Census Bureau shows the Asian population is booming across the country – and in the Austin area.

In Travis County, the number of people identifying themselves as Asian increased by close to 10 percent between 2010 and 2012.

According to the City of Austin, the city’s Asian population traditionally doubles every decade. The general population of Austin doubles every 25 years.

The city estimates that if projections hold the number of Asians in Austin will most likely exceed the number of African Americans in the next several years.

Since 2000, the Asian population across Texas has nearly doubled.
