Looking for a Cheap Pabst Blue Ribbon? Austin's Hipster Map Can Help

flickr.com/chrontourage

Hipsters are hard to find.

Or are they?

When they're not shopping for vintage vinyl or eating Moroccan soul food, they're probably at some place you've never heard of. But, thanks to Yelp's Wordmap, the uninitiated can now track the movements of ever-elusive Austin hipster.

The site combed through millions of reviews of over 65,000 businesses and chose 16 terms, some exclusive to Austin, some not.

Yelp then geo-tagged those terms in a Google Map, which you can see here, to provide both Austinites and tourists the best places to find hipsters, yuppies, margaritas, PabstBlue Ribbon, hangover food and, of course, bacon.

The most concentrated "hipster" contingent is in East Austin.

The largest contingent of  local hipster activity is a large swath along Sixth Street in Central Austin, bleeding to the East side nearly halfway to Pleasant Valley Road. Other notable hotspots appear in South Austin between First Street and South Congress Avenue and in the UT Campus area.

The project is not exclusive to Austin, however, the site also provided maps for 13 other "Yelpiest" cities including Boston, Chicago, London, Los Angeles, New York, Paris, Philadelphia, Portland, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, Toronto and Washington, D.C.
