It looks like Interim Superintendent Paul Cruz will be the next head of Austin schools. After an outpouring of local support in recent weeks, the school board voted Monday to allow Cruz to throw his hat into the ring for the permanent job.
The district announced today that the other two candidates vying for the position dropped out of the race ahead of a public candidates forum this Saturday. The two candidates informed the district’s recruiting agency, Ray and Associates, of their intention to not pursue the job today.
Austin ISD won’t release the names of the other two candidates. The board’s expected to announce the next superintendent (and, again, Paul Cruz is now the only candidate) at a meeting next Monday, Dec. 15.
We’ll have more on this story as it develops.
