Jeffrey Moe and Brandon Barrera on Understanding

Jeffrey Moe and Brandon Barrera

StoryCorps was back in Austin in November, recording the stories of Central Texas veterans as part of their Military Voices Initiative.

Jeffrey Moe recently shared his story with his friend Brandon Barrera. Jeffrey enlisted in the U.S. Army in 2002, serving as an Arabic linguist during deployments to both Afghanistan and Iraq.

This piece was produced for KUT by Michael Lee with interviews recorded at StoryCorps, a national nonprofit whose mission is to provide Americans of all backgrounds and beliefs with the opportunity to record, share, and preserve the stories of our lives.

Mike is the production director at KUT, where he’s been working since his days as an English major at the University of Texas. He produces and hosts This Is My Thing and Arts Eclectic, and also produces Get Involved and the Sonic ID project. When pressed to do so, he’ll write short paragraphs about himself in the third person, but usually prefers not to.
