Photos: The George W. Bush Presidential Library Dedication

Filipa Rodrigues, KUT News

Today, Texas became the first state to have three presidential libraries.

All five living U.S. presidents gathered this morning on the SMU campus in Dallas to dedicate the George W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum.

As he awaits what’s he’s called the judgment of history, former President Bush offered his own assessment of the legacy he leaves.

“The political winds blow left and right, polls rise and fall, supporters come and go, but in the end, leaders are defined by the convictions they hold,” Bush said. “And my deepest conviction, the guiding principle of the administration, is that the United States of America must strive to expand the reach of freedom.”

The library and museum opens to the public May 1. Below, a slideshow from today's event, shot by KUT News photographer Filipa Rodrigues.
