Austin Power Outages

It's a windy, rainy morning as a cold front moves through Central Texas.  A wind advisory is in effect until 6 p.m.  Highs will only reach the mid 30s today.  Over 2,000 Austin Energy customers were without power as of about 8 a.m.  That's according to Austin Energy's Storm Map.  The outages are spread out across the city.  Crews are working to restore power.

If you’re traveling today keep in mind storms in north Texas are affecting flights.  About twenty flights between Austin and Dallas are canceled today.

Texas Officials React to Healthcare Ruling

Texas officials are applauding yesterday’s rulingfrom a federal judge in Florida on the healthcare overhaul law.  Governor Rick Perry hailed the ruling, which struck down the healthcare law, as a victory for what he called the effort to end federal intrusion into the lives of Americans.  Texas is one of 26 states challenging the law.  The federal government is appealing.

"This case as well as other cases across the country are headed to one destination and that is the United States Supreme Court where the people of this country deserve an answer from as quickly as possible," said Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott.

You can read Abbott's entire statement here. This is the second time a federal judge has ruled that the provision requiring people to buy health insurance is unconstitutional.
