Texas lawmakers put the brakes on sweeping immigration enforcement bill — for now
The Texas Senate took no action Sunday on a far-reaching state immigration bill after GOP infighting stalled the proposal. Absent a legislative miracle before Tuesday, the measure will likely be revisited when Gov. Greg Abbott calls lawmakers back to Austin for the fourth time.
What would a government shutdown mean for Texans?
Programs including passport renewals and citizenship applications could be impacted if House members can’t reach an agreement on federal spending.

Summer literacy program empowers Austin students to stand up for the right to read
Students gathered at the Capitol this week to write letters to Texas lawmakers against book bans. One organizer said she hoped by being there the students would learn the statehouse was their house.
