NPR's 'On Point' Joins KUT Lineup

NPR recently announced it will cut 28 newsroom positions and end production of "Tell Me More" this summer. This is part of the network's plan to reduce costs by $7 million. "Tell Me More" host Michel Martin will continue to work for NPR covering issues of race, ethnicity, identity, faith and family throughout NPR's news magazines, online, via NPR's Code Switch, and at public events. NPR provided an FAQ on the newsroom changes read it here.

Next Monday, June 30 KUT will begin airing "On Point." Hosted by award-winning journalist Tom Ashbrook, "On Point" will initially be heard from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday through Friday on KUT 90.5. Beginning in the fall, we expect to launch the KUT-produced news magazine, "Texas Standard" in the 10 to 11 a.m. hour.

"On Point's" lively conversation covers everything from breaking news to ancient poetry, and features writers, politicians, artists, scientists and citizens from around the world. It also extends our successful partnership with producing station, WBUR in Boston. WBUR produces "Here and Now" and regularly features Austin-based newsmakers and reports from the KUT Newsroom. We expect that "On Point" will do so as well, creating a larger national platform for the intellectual and cultural assets of our community.

Airing "On Point" at 9 a.m., will eliminate a fifth hour of "Morning Edition," which is in line with the feedback we received through our morning listening survey.

We look forward to "On Point" joining our schedule next week and the launch of "Texas Standard" this fall.
