Highway 183

Daniel Alexander was enslaved when he founded a farm before the Civil War. 175 years later, his family is fighting to keep it intact as Texas plans to expand U.S. Highway 183.

The 183 South freeway will have a speed limit of 75 miles per hour; 45 SW was set at 70.

More than a year after opening, 183 South has no posted speed limits. But that doesn't mean you can drive as fast as you want.

The defect is not dangerous, TxDOT says. But some commuters don't like their vehicles bouncing 50 feet above the highway.

Starting Sunday night, people driving north on I-35 will detour to Rundberg Lane. The detour is expected to last four months. At the same time, two new flyover ramps are slated to open connecting I-35 southbound with U.S. 183.
