Update: Furloughs start today for full-time employees of the Texas Army and Air National Guard.
The employees will have to take 11 non-consecutive unpaid days off between now and Sept. 30 as part of federal budget cuts known as sequestration.
The National Guard has announced that, along with the furloughs, most military commissaries will be closed on Mondays through the end of September.

Texas Military Forces employees are being impacted by federal budget cuts known as sequestration.
Hundreds of full-time employees of the Texas Army and Air National Guard received furlough notices Thursday.
The employees will have to take 11 non-consecutive unpaid days off between July and September. A state public affairs officer says that’ll result in about a 20 percent pay cut for that part of the fiscal year. That is, unless the federal government steps in.
The Texas National Guard expects the furloughs will interfere with maintenance and training. But officials say they remain committed to supporting the state in disaster situations.
National Guard members who work one weekend per month and two weeks a year are not expected to be furloughed.
