An appeals hearing began this morning for former Austin police officer Leonardo Quintana who’s trying to get his job back. Quintana is the officer who fatally shot Nathaniel Sanders in 2009. This is the second time he’s making the case for his job before an independent arbitrator.
Quintana was fired last year after a DWI arrest, but then an arbitrator ruled he should be reinstated. Chief Art Acevedo fired Quintana a second time in October, following information regarding a domestic dispute in which Quintana was involved. KXAN-TV is reporting Quintana's ex-fiancee took the stand today.
Quintana’s hearing is expected to last several days. APD told KUT Acevedo’s scheduled to testify tomorrow.
