The 85th annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays have returned to Austin.
Track and field action at the Mike A. Myers Track and Soccer Stadium kicked off on Wednesday and stretches through Saturday. More than 6,000 athletes from high schools and colleges across the country will be competing.
The relays are accompanied by a host of other activities in town, meaning street closures and traffic delays.
On campus, the following streets temporarily covert to one-way:
Clyde Littlefield Dr - eastbound Friday 3/30/12 beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday 3/31/12 all day Robert Dedman Dr - northbound (between Red River & Clyde Littlefield Dr) Friday 3/30/12 beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday 3/31/12 all day
A map of the closures can be viewed below. UT Parking and Transportation Services asks students to expect congestion on campus during the relays.
The Austin Urban Music Festival, featuring Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds, Boyz II Men and others, is occurring Friday and Saturday at Auditorium Shores. Parts of Dawson Road and Bouldin Avenue will be closed starting Friday at 3 p.m. Nearby, parts of Barton Springs will be closed between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. Saturday for the Zilker Garden Festival.
Relay Weekend hits at the same time as the “Nosotros Los Tejanos” parade celebrating the unveiling of the Tejano Monument at the Texas Capitol. Congress Avenue will see full or partial closures for the parade on Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon.
In the entertainment district, weekend Sixth Street traffic closures will be in place as usual.
“There is so much pedestrian activity in the Interstate 35 area,” says city Transportation Department spokesperson Leah Fillion. “Additional closures may take place along the exits, the entrance ramps and the underpasses.”
