The Travis County Fire Marshal is cracking down on buildings that violate the fire code. Last week the Fire Marshal’s office issued twelve violation notices for six buildings in North Austin. Each structure had been built without a permit and occupied prior to approval.
Fire Marshall Hershel Lee says the crackdown comes after his office noticed several buildings built without permits within the last year.
"It’s much less expensive to comply with a fire code up front than it is to be found to be in violation and then face the possibility of losing a structure and paying civil penalties," said Lee.
Once a notice is issued, each day a violation continues is considered to be a separate violation.
