The Austin ISD Board of Trustees has approved a timeline for finishing the district’s controversial Facility Master Plan. At a meeting Monday night, the board okayed the timeline set out by Superintendent Meria Carstarphen.
A report presented to the board in March by a citizens’ task force suggested closing as many as nine schools.
The timeline approved last night calls for district staff to use the next four months to come up with their own recommendations for how to use district facilities more efficiently in the coming years. They would present their report to the board sometime in September. Trustees would then choose which part of the plan it approves.
The Final Facility Master Plan would be approved by the end of November. The timeline also calls for the formation of a bond advisory committee, and a bond election as early as May 2012.
