Each month we spotlight a local nonprofit that's in need of help. It's a way to connect our listeners with charities that make an impact.

Get Involved Spotlight: HomeAid Austin

From HomeAid Austin, this month's Get Involved spotlight organization:

HomeAid's mission is: "Building new lives for Austin’s homeless through housing and community outreach."

Although our mission gives us broad latitude to engage in construction projects across the entire Continuum of Care, from emergency shelters to transitional housing to permanent supportive housing, every HomeAid project supports an agency providing services that help residents move toward stability and self-sufficiency. HomeAid Austin serves as the facilitator between our Homeless Care Providers, the community at large, volunteers and the homebuilding community.  We currently serve six counties in Central Texas including Travis, Williamson, Hays, Lee, Bastrop, and Caldwell.

WHO WE ARE:
HomeAid Austin renovates and builds housing projects for Homeless Care Providers serving families and individuals at risk of or currently experiencing homelessness at a discounted rate, saving the agencies 30-60% off the total cost of each project.

WHO WE SERVE:
To be eligible for HomeAid housing, a charity must provide social services that enable families and individuals to move beyond their temporary situations, transform their lives, restore their self-worth, and regain self-sufficiency.
Essentially, HomeAid is a catalyst that leverages local resources to build transitional and permanent supportive housing at greatly reduced costs, enabling homeless care providers to channel more of their resources to doing what they do best: helping homeless individuals and families rebuild their lives.  If you are a Homeless Care Provider that provides supportive services for those at risk of becoming or currently experiencing homelessness, please click here.

HOW WE BUILD:
In collaboration with the Home Builder's Association of Greater Austin, HomeAid mobilizes the resources of the local building Industry to do what it does best: build housing. Every dollar invested in HomeAid is leveraged two or three times in the form of donated labor, materials and services. It's a model that has worked successfully throughout HomeAid's 30 Year history.

Recent Testimonial:

At The SAFE Alliance in Austin, we work with families and individuals of all ages that have been impacted by violence or abuse, many of whom are experiencing housing insecurity. Our partnership with HomeAid Austin came at a crucial moment as we were working to expand our outreach to young people being trafficked for sex, most of whom are also facing homelessness. HomeAid helped to design and create a welcoming home where these young survivors can relax, feel safe, and access the SAFE help and the services they need. We are so grateful to HomeAid for working with our team to build a space that is not only beautiful but also perfectly fits our needs, and the needs of these vulnerable young people. Thank you, HomeAid!
