Backers say Austin Art Village isn’t meant to solve the city's housing crisis, but the 10-home project could serve as a blueprint for larger affordable housing developments.

The goal of Black Rose ATX is to create spaces where students can explore storytelling, movement and voice together, guided by working artists who are paid a living wage to teach.

The Dick Chalmers Music Venue Program was named for a longtime Red River fixture whose career spanned venue operations, production work and mentorship. Chalmers died in November at 41.

Ghislaine Jean describes the performance as a space where Black women’s voices don’t project outward for affirmation, but can instead turn inward for self recognition. The concert and television taping is on Saturday at Austin PBS.
