Rick Perry meets with voters in Iowa

Rasmussen Reports has a new poll out this afternoon that shows Texas Governor Rick Perry with a sizable lead over his GOP opponent.

The survey of likely GOP primary voters has Perry in the lead with 29 percent. Former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney drops to 2nd with 18 percent, followed by Congresswoman Michele Bachmann, the winner of the Iowa Straw Poll, was third with 13 percent.

Two weeks ago a similar Rasmussen poll had Perry in 2nd place, but that was before he announced in Charleston S.C. that he was an official candidate.

The governor leaves Iowa today heading for New Hampshire for a few days before returning to South Carolina.
