As the U.S. Supreme Court heard arguments today over same sex marriage, it was Family and Faith Day on the Texas Capitol grounds.
State officials, including Governor Rick Perry, joined hundreds of people who support what they call “Texas values.”
“As the powers in Washington devise these new and expansive ways to intrude on our lives, on our family rights and on our livelihood, we must become more even more vigilant,” Gov. Perry said.
Other officials at the rally asked the crowd to support proposals that would limit abortion, expand charter schools and ensure freedom of religion in classrooms. Supporters of same-sex marriage were planning a rally later in the evening on the north steps of the Capitol.
