Fulmore Middle School’s Advanced Girls Choir has been invited to participate in the Distinguished Concert Singers International performance at Carnegie Hall in January.
Composer Francisco Nunez asked the choir to perform his “Music for Treble Voices.” Nunez, Director of the Youth Choir of New York heard the Fulmore Advanced Girls Choirperform while attending the Texas Music Educators Convention in Dallas. He was impressed with both the girls and their director, Yvette Carroll.
The choir will accept the invitation, if all of the girls are have an equal opportunity to go, regardless of their family’s financial situation. Because 76 percent of Fulmore’s student body is classified as economically disadvantaged, many of the girls’ can cover little to none of the cost of the trip. Fulmore has been working to raise funds to cover the remainder of the $45,000 it will cost to send the choir to New York for the performance.
