Judge Sherri Tibbe dismissed the lawsuit Attorney General Ken Paxton filed against the City of San Marcos over its ordinance decriminalizing low-level marijuana possession.

The measure would have required the Austin Police Department to staff at least 2 officers per every 1,000 residents.

Many police departments have adopted that ratio as protocol. But people who study policing say using a ratio to determine staffing is too simplistic.

Equity PAC, a political action committee lobbying against Proposition A, also received a $200,000 donation from a Washington, D.C.-based organization that supports progressive ballot measures.
