Challenger Takes 4400-vote Lead in Runoff

Kathie Tovo still holds a commanding lead over incumbent Randi Shade in the latest runoff election results.

With 60.77%t of the Election Day ballots counted, Tovo continues to have a 56-44 percent lead over Shade for Place Three on the Austin city council. Tovo has 20,297 votes. Shade has 15,893 votes.

The race became contentious, with each side trading barbs about public safety funding, city support for Formula One racing and election law violations 33 days since the city general election.
