Ransom Center Acquires Coetzee Archive
The Harry Ransom Center at the University of Texas at Austin has acquired the archive of Nobel-prize winning author J. M. Coetzee. Coetzee was born in South Africa, but received a Ph.D. in English, linguistics and Germanic languages from UT in 1969. He taught at the university briefly in 1995 in the Michener Center for Writers. Coetzee came to UT to speak at the 100th anniversary of the Graduate School in May 2010. A video of his speech can be found here. The archive contains documents and materials spanning more than fifty years.
Bastrop Town Hall Meeting
Bastrop County officials are holding a town hall meeting tonight to discuss wildfire recovery efforts. The event, called Bastrop County: On the Road Back, will be held from six to eight tonight at the Jerry Fay Wilhelm Center for Performing Arts in Bastrop. Officials are encouraging residents to come with any questions they may have.
Wildfires in Bastrop County have scorched over 34,000 acres in just over a month.
Longhorns Plummet in the Rankings
The Texas Longhorn football team has fallen in the rankings after its loss to the University of Oklahoma. The Sooners beat the Longhorns 55- 17 on Saturday. The Longhorns fell from number 10 to 21 on the USA Today Coaches Poll. The AP Top 25 poll now places the Longhorns at 22, down from 11.
