Lawyers to Make Final Pitches in DeLay's Trial

Closing arguments are set for today in Tom DeLay's money laundering trial in Austin.  Prosecutors say the former U.S. House majority leader helped illegally funnel $190,000 in corporate money to Texas candidates in 2002.  DeLay's attorneys say the money swap at the center of the case was legal.  He faces up to life in prison if convicted.

Dallas Firm to Design Formula 1

The Austin-American Statesman is reporting the architects of the new Cowboys Stadium, Dallas-based architectural firm HKS Inc., have been hired to design the Formula 1 complex to be built just southeast of Austin.  The price tag on the Cowboys Stadium was a billion dollar plus.  The Statesman reports HKS would design much of the complex but not the circuit itself.  A German engineering firm  is designing that.  F1 Promoters say the first race will be in 2012.

Perry on Social Security

Texas Governor Rick Perry calls Social Security a ponzi scheme.  On Fox News Sunday Gov. Perry stopped short of saying whether he wants to see it abolished.  Perry said he wants to focus on changes to Medicaid first.  And just in case you are wondering if he's changed his mind, Perry said once again that he is not planning to run for President in 2012.  You can watch the video of yesterday's program on the Texas Tribune's website.

With this weekend's Florida Atlantic win lifting spirits, the UT football team and fans are now looking forward to Thursday's game against No. 17 Texas A&M.  The Blood & Tissue Center of Central Texas is pitting Longhorn fans against Aggies in a blood donation drive challenge through Wednesday.  One lucky fan will win tickets to the big game Thanksgiving Day.
