The Town Lake Animal Center is at capacity and has run out of space.

The shelter took in 30 cats in the first hour of business Friday morning. The cats are now temporarily being caged in offices. Animal workers say people this week have dropped off more pets than usual. The shelter took in close to 350 cats and dogs this week.

TLAC sent a press release Saturday morning, asking people to reclaim lost pets at the shelter or to wait at least a week before turning over an animal:

“Being a No-Kill City takes the support of the entire community,” said Abigail Smith, Chief Animal Services Officer. “When we reach capacity we need people to be mindful that animals dropped off at the shelter are at serious risk of being euthanized. “A City shelter can't be "No-Kill" on its own - it truly takes effort on the part of the entire community to reach the goal of being a humane and compassionate community for all companion animals.”

Last month, the shelter surpassed its 90 percent no-kill goal.

To reduce the animal population at TLAC, the shelter is selling cats and dogs that are ready for immediate adoption for $20 through the weekend.
