Some cameras used to inspect pipes contain radioactive materials. One such camera was stolen from a car on South I-35 Tuesday.

The Austin Police Department is asking for help to find car burglars who counted a radioactive camera among their loot.

In a press release, APD  said the theft occurred on South I-35. The stolen device is used to identify leaky pipes. It contains a radioactive material that could be dangerous to those who come into contact with it and the surrounding areas.

Police say there is no evidence that the suspect meant to steal the dangerous camera.

Anyone with information about this item is asked to contact Detective David Martin at (512) 974-4959.
