***Update: 08/25/11 5 a. m. Austin Energy's storm map shows power has been restored to all customers.

Earlier:

Austin Energy says there are some power outages that are occurring this evening. About 4,000 customers do not have power as of 7 pm. Drivers are encountering street lights that went black.

Austin Energy spokesperson Ed Clark says the power outages are on the fringes of the downtown area from M.L.K. Jr. Blvd. to Mopac to Lamar Blvd. down to Barton Springs. Although Clark said he wasn't sure if the power outage are due to the heat, Clark said utility equipment is overworked, especially during heavy loads, when malfunctions can happen.

Austin Energy says crews are working to restore power.

You can find detailed information about the outages at Austin Energy's Storm Center website.
