High-risk sex offenders in Travis County could get a surprise visit from their probation officer tonight. Officials will be checking to make sure the sex offenders are inside with their porch lights turned off.

TheTravis County Adult Probation Department requires that sex offenders sign an agreement promising not to take part in trick-or-treat activities, and not to leave their homes between the hours of 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. If the offender does not abide by the agreement, they can be found in violation of their probation.

Sex offenders are also required to register their address with the state. You can see if there are any registered sex offenders in your neighborhood by searching here. Sex offenders who have completed their probation will not be subject to spot checks by law enforcement officials.
