Gas Leak Slows Down Traffic in South Austin

Google Maps

Update 8:10 a.m. --

Crews have stopped a gas leak at Stassney Lane and Manchaca Road but traffic is still moving slowly in the area.

One lane of eastbound Stassney remains closed as does the right turn lane from Manchaca northbound to Stassney eastbound.

The Austin Independent School District says schools in the area – including Crockett High School – are starting on time but some buses are running late because of the slow-moving traffic.

Original Story --

Lanes are still shut down at the intersection of Stassney Lane and Manchaca Road after a gas leak this morning.

At last report, Stassney is shut down in both directions and Manchaca is down to one lane.

The Austin Fire Department says the closures could last through morning rush hour.

There are no evacuations and AISD says schools in the area will start on time. AISD Spokesperson Helena Wright says school is scheduled to start on time at Odom Elementary and Cunningham Elementary. School will also start on time at Crockett High School – though everyone will be re-directed to the side entrance.
