Westlake High School is open for classes, after a written threat discovered on campus yesterday lead to an extensive overnight search.
Officials didn’t reveal the exact nature of the threat, but an email from Westlake principal John Carter says “School will operate as normal, with an increased security and adult presence in and around the campus. The first period bell just sounded moments ago and classes have started.”

Dear Parents and Guardians, Good morning. We want to give everyone an update on today’s activities that have already occurred at Westlake High School. Starting well before sunrise, law enforcement officials and canine units conducted a search of the interior and perimeter of the building this morning. When the building was deemed secure and safe, doors opened at 8:00. School will operate as normal, with an increased security and adult presence in and around the campus. The first period bell just sounded moments ago and classes have started. Providing a safe environment for students is always a priority. We have heard from some of you who have concerns about the situation. Please know that we are doing everything we can to ensure the safety of our students and staff and that we are following our emergency plans, working with law enforcement, and staying vigilant.
