No-Refusal Weekend on Austin Streets and Waters

KUT News

Austin police have a no-refusal period Memorial Day weekend targeting drunken driving and boating.

During no-refusal actions, officers can obtain blood search warrants on suspects who refuse to willingly provide a breath sample or cooperate with a blood test.

Sgt. Brian Jones of the APD Lake Patrol Unit says police will be watching for reckless boaters on Lake Austin, which he expects will have more traffic than usual because of low levels at Lake Travis.

“We would ask that people who are bringing boats and people that are boating on Lake Austin to use the utmost caution and to be courteous on the lake, as there will be a lot more traffic than there are on usual weekends," Jones said.

APD is also banning motorized personal watercraft on Lake Austin from sunset tomorrow until sunrise Tuesday.

Nonmotorized watercraft such as kayaks, canoes and paddleboards, will be allowed on the lake.
