If you've driven past Dean Keaton and Guadalupe Streets recently, you may have noticed a new building going up in the northeast corner, on top of what used to be a parking lot.
That building will eventually house KUT, along with classrooms, labs and offices for the University of Texas College of Communication. The photo-op ground breaking was held back in March, and progress appears to have been steady ever since.
Today, construction crews poured the first layer of a foundation for the building. It's actually underneath what will become the new Studio 1A.
"It's a very important milestone and staring with Studio 1A, one of the most high profile important spaces at KUT," our station's general manager Stewart Vanderwilt said.
Because of the heavy vibrations that will come from the recording studio, there will be three separate layers poured to dampen the sound.
The whole building is slated to be completed in 2012.
KUT engineer Brian Urban got up on the roof of our current building across the street and snapped these pictures of the foundation pour this morning.
